§ 5,000+ Flickr Photos

This month, I saw that there are more than 5,000 photos in my Flickr photostream. In last October, there were 4,000 photos. So, in less than two months, there are more than 1,000 photos uploaded? Of course, not all of them are displayed for public. There are lots of private photos there. I think, the increasing number of photos happens after I purchased my Canon EOS 450D few months ago.

Here are some numbers related to my Flickr photostream — when I write this post:

  • 5,403 photos in total: 3,872 public photos, 1,218 private photos, 18 friend-only photos, 262 family-only photos, 33 friend-and-family only photos.
  • In total, there are 5,400 photos and 3 videos. Right, Flickr also support videos.
  • About photo tagging, there are 2,914 photos with tags (2,489 untagged)
  • Sometime, I uploaded some photos with geotagging info. Also, I put some photos on the Flickr map. I have 849 photos geotagged.
  • I manage my photos in sets and 5,163 photos among total collections are in sets.
  • My photostream has 120 sets and 7 collections.
  • In December 2009, I uploaded 962 photos, but in September 2009 there was only one photos uploaded.
  • In total, I made 8 transactions (buying Flickr Pro credits). But, I only use two credits. The other credits were bought for my friends who want Flickr Pro upgrade (Flickr Gifts).

§ Pixlr, Online Image Editor

Here another alternative for online image editor. It’s called Pixlr. We can upload and image images directly from internet browser. To enjoy this service, we need to have Flash plugin installed. Learn more.

§ Distribute Media Files Quickly Using Pixelpipe

Today, Pixelpipe is on open beta. If you haven’t heard about Pixelpipe before, it’s a service that allows us to deliver digital media (pictures, videos, and audio) to many different services. If you have blogs, Twitter (my twitter page), or any text-based services, you probably have heard about Ping.fm. It’s similar, the main different is that Pixelpipe can be used to deliver digital files.

Few weeks ago, I got an invite to try Pixelpipe. I was impressed. It’s easy to use, anyway. Currently there are more than 30 photo/video sharing services available to “pipe”. For example, I can post my photos to Flickr and Nokia OVI at the same time. Or even to Picasa. Just choose and connect other service’s account to your Pixelpipe. We can also post our files to other blog service providers like VOX, LiveJournal, WordPress, etc. As long as the services support your media format, they should — hopefully — work fine.

The uploading process is also simple. What makes it even better is that there are some uploader tools available to download. I’ve tried Pixelpipe Uploadr (Windows), and it works great. It’s similar to Flickr Uploadr.

Okey, signup while it’s hot. Note: It doesn’t have a password reminder feature yet — still in the process?. So, just make sure you remember your password.

§ MOO Mini Cards

MOO Mini Cards

Finally, we have them delivered :)

No, no. It’s not about having social bookmarking buttons on our Flickr photos. But, the idea is still about sharing. We are now able to share our photos, sets, collections with other members. And, it’s not only about sharing pictures with other members, but also related to how we will use the photos.

The “Share This” button will be visible only if we can share the information on the page. So, it is not visible on frontpage since we can not share anything. If we’re seeing a photo — our own photo or other member’s — we can easily tell other people about the photo, embed it into our websites/blogs, get the permalink, or even blog about it from our Flickr account (only if we have blogs assigned into our Flickr account).

Of course, we can not share our private pages like Flickr stats page (for Pro members). And, it depends on the privacy settings we apply to our photos. If we want to share some private photos, we can do it by giving a “Guest Pass” to our friends. Go to Flickr help page about sharing for more info.

§ When strangers add you as his/her contact

Few days ago, I had someone added my Flickr account as her contact. Well, I am not sure whether it is her own real account or not. Probably, it is someone’s account. I assumed that it’s a “she”. I noticed that I was not familar with the name. Okey, I looked at the profile. And, boom! The account has many pornographic material there. And, it seems spammy.

flickr blocked

I just quickly blocked her account. I did not have any other reason to accept that. And, probably this is the first person I blocked. I am not a person who put ‘numbers of contact’ as a goal. I prefer to have less contacts rather than having numerous contacts but most of them are stragers. Remember what happened to my Facebook account? Currently, I have still many ‘stragers’ there. It is fine if those who added me have a ‘safe content’, but I am not comfortable when someone who has pornographic and any other distracting materials added me.

Okey, I blocked that person (as my Flickr contact). According to Flickr, blocking means that they:

  • can’t comment on my photos. All comments on my photos that they make are deleted.
  • are removed as my contact, and you are removed as theirs.
  • can’t add me as a contact again.
  • can’t add my photos as favorites. Any of my photos marked as their favorites are removed.
  • can’t blog my photos
  • can’t add notes or tags. Any notes and tags they added to my photos are removed.
  • can’t send me FlickrMail

§ Blogger Play, real-time slideshow

Blogger Play

Blogger users have another features offered by Blogger.com service. It’s called Blogger Play. You will find a never-ending stream of images that were just uploaded to public Blogger blogs. The images are from all blogs that are set to “public”, listed on the web and from public Blogger profiles. IF you do want to have your images/photos displayed on Blogger Play, you can make it private by choosing “No” in your blog profile. Go to Settings | Basic and for Add your Blog to our listings? field, choose “No“.

Blogger Play will only display images based on user settings preferences, and it uses Google SafeSearch algorithms to filter out adult/inappropriate images. You can always send a report to Blogger team if find inappropriate photos.

Visit Blogger Play FAQ for detailed info.

§ Illustration and Avatar Maker Online Tools

When we register to a service, we have the ability to change our profile/account information. And one of them is on the photo or avatar image. The main reason because we want to incorporate our avatar identity to our account. Well, better than the default image/photos provided by the services.

But sometime, creating an avatar takes too much time. Not only because we have to deal with complicated software for image editing, but also we lack of ideas. What kind of avatar? We can create our own avatar and illustration in ease. Portrait Illustration Maker and Otaku Avatar Maker are available for free.

Illustration and Avatar Maker

The input fields will help you creating your favorite avatar or illustration. You can choose the background, foot, hair type, eyes color, etc. If you have created them, you can simply save your work and use it for your need. Nice tools!
