§ Indonesia: A band from Russia

indonesia_band_logo

If you think that Indonesia is only being used as a country name, it’s not. There is a Russian band named Indonesia also. (Hat tip: fisto). Since its website is not in English, MySpace described it as:

Indonesia – band was founded in St-Petersburg in autumn 2007.The musicians’ main aim is to play high-quality rock-music including original arrangements and perfect melodies. There is a strong accent on expert combining of classical western rock and modern progressive sound elements. After the months of the rehearsals and recording demo sound-track “Pretty Colours” Indonesia regularly performs in numerous clubs of St.-Petersburg and Moskow. Mad dynamics and drive distinguishs each Indonesia set, that immediately helps the band to find their own fans. (source)

More about this band can be found at Last.fm, MySpace, and also its official site. When I surfed its MySpace, I saw that there’s a Dream Theater fans club. What’s interesting about this fans club is its logo — well, I’m not sure whether it’s the official logo or not.

§ Jogjakarta Earthquake, Twitter and Mainstream Media

Today, when I was watching TV, I felt the tremors. The windows were shaking. Earthquake! I jumped from the chair, run outside and calling my grandparents, telling them that there’s an earthquake. I went outside. When I was outside the house, I heard my neighbor screamed also.

Two years ago, there was an earthquake also. It was on May 29 27, 2006, around 5.55 AM. You can see more pictures about the earthquake on my old Flickr account. This Flickr account will not be updated since I have switch to a new Flickr account.

For few seconds, I stayed outside the house. After I found that it was safe enough to get back to the house, I went back to my room, shared what just happened via Twitter. I went to the living room, watching TV to find the news. Switch to TV channels. No news at all. While finding news, I called my parents in Bantul. They said that they also felt it. Not big, but shocking. When the big earthquake happened 2 years ago, I was in Jogja. I think many people still have the trauma. I’m, too.

§ Meet Opik, a street musician

I met Opik (I hope I write his name correctly) for the first time when I had a late dinner with my friend in Jalan Solo, Jogjakarta. He is a street musician. When I heard him singing a first song, I was amazed. He knew how to sing. Great voice!

We — my friend Dadik, me and him — had a discussion for few hours about many topics… enjoying the night. Anyway, here is a video when he sang “Cinta”, a song by Vina Panduwinata. If you’re interested to see other videos, visit my videoblog page or go to my Vimeo page.

Good luck Opik. Nice to meet you.

§ Pesta Blogger 2008

Last year, I joined Pesta Blogger (Indonesian Bloggers Gathering — official site). It was a great event (Flickr photoset). More than 500 bloggers gathered at Blitz Megaplex. This year (2008), Pesta Blogger will be hold in Jakarta again. At first, it was scheduled on October 25th. The commitee announced that it will be hold in November. Still haven’t got valid info about “when” and “where”. Ayway, this-year theme is: blogging for society.

§ IDR 100K to Update Domain Registrant Contact and Domain Transfer for .ID Domains

If you’re having .ID domains — I do have some, you might heard about the news. That’s right, the news (it’s official!) said that starting from November 1, 2008, we need to pay IDR 100,000 (around US $10) to update Registrant Contact and/or Admin domain information. And, what makes it even better is that we need an formal letter. But, if we only need to update billing, technical contact and nameservers… it’s free.

Anyway, I posted about my experience about .ID domain renewal last year. With this new policy, I think I’ll avoid using .ID. If my clients want to register .ID domains, they should know about this first. It’s much cheaper — and easier — to have .COM!

I just knew about Marcell Siahaan’s blog from Benny Candra. Yes, he’s that Marcell, an Indonesian singer. If you’re his fans and want to know more about him, it’s time to visit his blog. This is what I like from a blog, it can bring individual closer to each other. Anyway, I just knew also that his full name is Marcellius Kirana Hamonangan Siahaan. :)

§ Indonesian Railway LLC’s Web Domain Expired

Anyone notice that the Indonesian Railway LLC‘s website (kereta-api.com) is inaccessible? Well, when I tried to get some train schedule from its website, I could not open the site. At first, I thought the problem was on the server. So, I waited.

I tried again after few hours. But, still… inaccessible. I whois-ed the domain name (kereta-api.com), and… surprise! It’s expired. Isn’t it amazing?

kereta-api-com

Added later: The domain had been renewed.

§ PANDI accepts two-year domain renewal

I have been using .id domains for quite long time. And, it has been a year since PANDI hold the domain registration service. Last year, PANDI only accepted domain registration for one year only for each domain. Now, they said that we can register and also renew our existing domains fot two years (read the press release).

My experience with PANDI is nice. I mean, I never got big problem on domain registration. Well, there was a little problem, but it seems they are improving their service. When I registered a domain for my client last few weeks, the only problem was because of incomplete documents. I thought it was fine, but PANDI needed more requirements. I was fine and told my client to send me some other documents. So, basically, as we go with the procedures, it should not be that difficult to get .id domains.

§ Hello World!

No.. no, I am not switching to WordPress. I just setup another blog for myself. You can visit my another blog at http://thomas.or.id. That’s right, it’s powered by WordPress. Why not using Movable Type? Well, why not using WordPress? :)

I will write in Bahasa Indonesia there, and the topic will not be too serious. Well, I think I speak Bahasa Indonesia better than English. Another reason is that I want to have place to experiment with WordPress. I do maintain some WP-powered sites like Asia Blogging, FD, 3GWeek, and also Yusril Ihza Mahendra’s. But I do not have my own playground to play with WordPress.

Anyway, if you’re Indonesian WordPress users, you probably want to join wp-indonesia discussion list. It’s a list to discuss about WordPress in Bahasa Indonesia. There are many experienced WP users there. Right now, there are not many people joining. Why not joining and start discussion? See you there! Again, I am also available at http://thomas.or.id. :)

§ Yusril Ihza Mahendra’s New Blog

Yusril Ihza Mahendra, the former State Secretary, starts blogging using a new blog address. His blog — made using WordPress — is located at http://yusril.ihzamahendra.com. All posts (except the last one) have been imported to WordPress.

Vavai also also informs that his blog can also be accessed using some different domains. http://yusrilihzamahendra.com or just http://yusril.com. Just choose. All will be redirected to the primary domain where his blog originally installed. Right, just a redirection.

Note: All posts and comments will be written by Pak Yusril himself. And, all communication sent from the contact form will go to Pak Yusril inbox. Yes, it’s his blog.

Happy blogging, Pak!

§ Rainy Season and Electricity Problem

It’s raining now. It’s a good thing to have rain here. In the last few months, it was hot, really hot in Jogjakarta. At least I can get more friendly weather. The problem is, I live in an unlucky area. I do not know the real problem, but I think it’s because the electricity network in my area is not that good. Not only in rainy season, during the normal weather condition, I got many electricity problem. It went out. It just did.

Last night, the electricity went out. I was in the bathroom. Ah! After lighting some candles, I went outside. Going to the street. And, it’s only in my area. It’s not the first time. Whenever there’s an electricity problem, it’s always in my area. I know, some areas had it too. Argghhh!

Is it too much if I want to have a good electricity service? Or, is it only a dream? Oh, well…
