So, the skateboard is for me?  Thank you, Ovi!

Two weeks ago, I left some comments at Ovi blog after they had a new design for their blog. They told the readers that they had some goodies: a skateboard and five shirts. Did I want one? Sure, I did. A shirt should be just great.

Two days ago, I got an email from Niini Kokkonen (the Editor of Ovi Blog) telling that I’m the lucky person who will get the skateboard. And she told me also why I’m the lucky one. I will keep the email for myself. Thank you Niini!

Yesterday, they made an announcement. And yes, the skateboard i for me. But, it’s not mine yet since I haven’t had it in my hands. It will be shipped today or tomorrow. I’ll wait. And, yes… I feel so lucky this time. Congratulation to all other winners!

When I was in the airport in Jogjakarta, I tried to switch it on hoping that it’s back to normal. It gave me the same error. Nothing I could do. Damn! When I got home, I tried to find the solution, and I used these solutions.

Your memory card is corrupted.
Firstly hard reset your device without inserting the memory card. And after hard resetting just insert back your memory card.
If still the problem persits just attach your device to your PC in Mass Storage mode and right click your memorycard and select properties and select tools and select check now..i.e. scan disk your memory card for errors… (source)

This is what I did:

• Switch off the phone and pull out the memory card.
• Switch on the phone without memory card. It’s back to normal now.
• Switch it off again and insert its memory card back, and turn it off.
• It’s working again.

I was worried that the only solution was formatting my memory card. At least, next time I get this kind of problem, I should know what I must try. Is there any other solution to solve this kind of error?

Today, I tried a service called IDrive. It’s an online backup service. Why I need this? The reason is simple: I want to keep my data, just to make sure that I have backup for important files. IDrive data provides many options to choose. For example, if I only need less than 2 GB of backup storage, I can get if for free. But, if 2 GB is not enough, I can upgrade it easily. For example, I can get 150 GB for personal use only for USD 49.50. Or, if I want to subscribe monthly, I only need to pay USD 4.95. Just do the math. :)

To make my computer “connected” to IDrive server, I only need to download IDrive software. Currently, it support Windows and Mac. So, after I have a registered account, I download and install the software. Run the software, fill in the account info and voila! I’m connected. Now, I want to prove whether the backup and restore process is easy or not.

Backup process

First, I need to locate a directory where I put all files I want to backup. I want to make it easy to organize. So, I created a new folder in my drive called “IDrive”. If I want to backup some files, I just need to place them in that folder. Look at the screenshot below:

When I’m done, I just click on the “Backup Now” button, and it will start the backup process. The process depends on my internet speed.

It’s very simple! After this process, I thought I need to do something else. But, I was wrong. All done. I do not need to do anything. The files were stored, and I could see that I can restore it at anytime. It seemed easy. But, is it really easy to restore? So, let’s prove it.

Restore process

I deleted a file in “IDrive” directory. I went to the restore menu tab where I could see the “online version”. I chose the file I wanted to restore.

After that, IDrive software asked me where to restore the file. Choose the location, and click on the “Restore” button. And, done!

The backup and restore processes are very simple. It works for me, and it should work for you, too. Try it!

There are many free blog services offered on the internet. Because every blogger has his/her own way on using the service, he/she tends to choose the service that can accomodate their needs.

There is a service called thoughts.com. It’s a Free Blog service that’s available for everyone. Even it is still in beta period, but it already offers many features like blog creation, media and multimedia sharing — we can share photos, videos, music files or even podcasts. It also has a privacy control settings so that you can decide who can read your blog (public, private, friends or family). Having this rich-feature service, we do not need to worry about paying bandwidth at all.

About community building, there is also an extra feature: discussion forum. If you want to jump into the crowd with many different interest, you can give it a try. It’s a good thing if we know the definitions. We do not have to use or have them, but we can keep them as our references. Okey, for example the word dedicated server. We will not only talking about dedicated server, there are some other info we should know like shared hosting, reseller, etc. So, what is dedicated server mean? If we have a dedicated server, it means that we really have our server 100%. We can use entire hard disk, bandwidth and resources our server has. We talk about freedom. For some people who only need small amount of space and bandwidth, they probably do not need a dedicated server, but for a big company or those who have a busy-traffic website, they definitely need one.
