Setting up w.bloggar for Movable Type blog

Do you have some blogs to maintain? Do you want to maintain those blogs easily? If your answer is: YES, than you can take advantages using an application called w.bloggar. What is w.bloggar? According to its FAQ:

The w.bloggar is an application that acts as an interface between the user and one or more blog(s); in other words, it is a Post and Template editor, with several features and resources that the browser based blog editors do not offer.

To communicate with the weblog, w.bloggar requires that the blog system have implemented an API (Application Programming Interface.) Currently, w.bloggar is compatible with all tools that implements Blogger API, metaWeblog API, MovableType API and b2 API; all based on the XML-RPC definition.

This tutorial will explain how to use w.bloggar for your Movable Type-powered blog. First, you need to download w.bloggar, and install in your computer.


The most important thing is to set the API password for your account in your blog. Movable Type has two types of password, the first is the password that is used to login via web-based URL, and the second one is “Web Service Password”. Your second password does not have to be the same as your first password.

  1. Open your w.bloggar
  2. Choose “Add Account”
  3. In the Blogtool field, choose “Movable Type”
  4. Account alias — you can choose an alias here to identify your account in w.bloggar. Remember, you can add as many account in your w.bloggar account settings.
  5. You can adjust another settings in the section.
  6. “Host” is your host URL. If your Movable Type files is located at http://domain.com/cgi-bin/mt.cgi than you should put domain.com as your “host”.
  7. “Path” — Enter the path for your mt-xmlrpc.cgi file. If you use the URL above, than you should enter: /cgi-bin/mt-xmlrpc.cgi.
  8. If your settings are correct, you should be able to access your blog using w.bloggar.
