Playing around with Textpattern

in Webdev

I am not sure when I installed Textpattern for the first time. At that time, I was completely confused about the template system — the presentation. I thought it was because Textpattern template system separates each element. This week I tried to install Textpattern, and trying to understand how the template works. How each element separated is an advantage. Until now, these are my favorite features about Textpattern. I believe there are many more, I think I haven’t find them all.

  • Multiple sections. I can make as many sections as I want. And for each section, I can use same ‘form’ (”list_form” and “form”)
  • Image and file management. Uploading image (and creating thumbnails is so easy. And to display images, Textpattern offers three options: Using Textile, Textpattern tags, and XHTML. Just click on the image link, and it gives me the tag. My favorite is Textpattern tag. One more thing, all images uploaded from the interface can be arranged by category. It helps me alot!
  • Custom fields. I can put many custom fields on each article. And in the template system, the template tags to display ’something related to custom fields’ is so readable. The conditional tags also easy to understand.

I think I will find more. And I am sure that one of my site (later) will be built using Textpattern. Now, I think I just need to learn how to get the most from Textpattern. About my favorite site using Textpattern, I think it is Jon Hicks’.

    Hello!
Thank you for linking my Google-movie in your links-section. Nice site you have, with quite an unusual basic layout. And - funny - I use Textpattern, too. It is confusing and I needed a little help by Stuart from theBombsite.com, but it is very flexible and has a great forum.
Greetings to Asia from Bavaria, Zep!

    Hi there!
I came over here with a quwstion for you but I can’t seem to find an email :(.
And while I’m at it, I’m pretty good with blogging software, but Textpattern scared the hell out of me. Couldn’t handle it.

Good luck than, and how can I write to you personally? :)

Angel, hehe, sama, saya juga pertamanya bingung, tapi setelah diliat-liat sepertinya mudah juga dibacanya. Ah, tapi tetep saja, masih agak-agak bingung ini saya sama TXP ini.

    Zep, thanks for coming!

    Jauhari, kabar baek-baek mas. :)

Sarit, I give TXP a try, and I think — I will use it in my other site. It is in the making now. If you want to contact me personally, you can send your mail to: thomasarie AT yahoo DOT com
