So, why migrating from a blogtool to another? Because… It’s fun. So, I want to make a review about the migration. (hehe… probably it will be so boring). It’s gonna be a long post. :) And, you can find out my reasons. If you have question about this, you’ll find the answers.

Blogger.Com
Blogger is my very first blogtool I knew. At first, I only know a bit about weblog. I only made a personal site. Using iframe, and got hosted at free hosting service. And when I wanted to “make a page where I can post something regularly, I posted it manually. Yes, manually :) Googling, and surfing on the net… and I found Blogger. Then I surfed to site, and found Donnie’s site. My question (at that time “How to make such site?”). -_- I got my first Blogger site hosted at Blog*Spot. No commenting system, no referer. Nothing, just a simple weblog.
Greymatter
This is my second blogtool. Made by Noah Grey. I installed it since I had my first hosting having a more-than-enough features. It was at Singcat. It was free at the first time. I had a built-in weblog commenting system there. So, yeah! If people want to make a comment, it was so easy. I used it for months. I did not know much about PHP. So, I use that. But, I found a problem when I had to rebuild all files when I made some changes to get the effects. I had a slow internet connection. Sometimes, when I do rebuilding, connection disconnected. Arrghh! Too bad.
b2 Cafelog and WordPress
Coming up after Greymatter. I found its installation is easy enough. The customization also. I have installed many b2 hacks for my b2 site. And, when WordPress came, I moved to WordPress. Great tool! And I make some changes here and there. I use it almost a year. Including the search-engine friendly URL for WordPress. Good job for all b2 and WordPress developers!
pMachine Pro 2.3
I moved to a new webhost, and I did not transfer all my files to a new host, but I had my database backed up. Installing WordPress again? Uhmm… what about pMachine? I read the documentations, the features. Than I moved to pMachine. I got the copy pMachine Pro 2.3 from Rick Ellis for my Indonesian Language Pack for pMachine. I have tried some modifications. And also the search engine friendly URL. And also the multiple weblogs.

Movable Type
My current blogtool. My reasons:

Features and hacks. I like to made a modification on the layout and blog items (hacks?).
Nice permalink Well, take a look at the permalinks. For me it’s so nice. Including the archiving.
Challenging. For me, it’s so challenging to make a layout on movabletype-based weblog. And I am so curious about this.
Multiple weblogs, and categories I can file an entry into some categories, and make other weblogs. I heard that WordPress will have this feature too. (The multiple categories… Nice!)

There is no need for you to explain to anyone why you switched blog tool. This is your blog and you are free to do anything with it. So, who cares about what other people think..

nice review :) quick question, since you’ve gone through many tools: how do you compare between MT and WP? i’m thinking of migrating the journal to WP, since they have the “password protected entry” feature. but, as you probably know, migration is kinda… well, scary.

For my part I don’t move from one to another tool because I actually don’t really have an active blog but I like to play with CMS tools and bloging tools are really great.
- I really LOVE b2evo (the other branch of b2) because of it’s community and its great features.
- Also installed MT that I definitly don’t like (don’t really know why). Too big, too complicated, too many plugins and hacks …
- Textpatern has great potential even if version number seems to be not stable version (while it IS stable).
- Nucleus is really easy to use. The backoffice is the best I’ve seen for layout customisation. The community is also very active.
- Others as bBlog and pMachine are also good tools but I haven’t tested them enough yet :)
